Café identity - Iris & June

The founders’ grandmothers are called Iris and June. As soon as we heard this it ended all discussions around naming. An element of chance and real life experience had given the project a memorable and warm sounding name that had real heritage sewn through it.

The name is rich with memories and meaning, but we didn’t want this to lead the expression of the brand. The result is a stencil wordmark that is timeless in it’s elegance and simplicity. This is simplified further in it’s shortened I&J form, for use in social media, as loyalty card stamps and other in-store uses.

The thinking

Mixing a high end, sophisticated aesthetic at the core of the identity with something more low-fi and tactile for it’s day-to-day application.

Brand application

Newspaper

When we created the Iris & June identity in 2014, we pitched the idea of a newsprint marketing piece, to celebrate both suppliers and interesting characters from the local area.

Once the dust had settled on the launch, Jodie revived the idea of the printed piece, with the nice add-on that it acts as a celebration of their first anniversary.
